MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's men's tennis coach Michael Wayman announced Thursday that the Gaels have signed Washington native and former Olympia High standout John Stormans to join the team for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
A 5-foot-10 southpaw, Stormans comes to Moraga with an impressive resume. A two-time all-state performer, he is a 3-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net.
Stormans has several singles titles already under his belt, including the Olympia Bally's 18s and Wenatchee Racquet Club 18s.
Where he's been particularly good is in doubles, as Stormans teamed with Hunter Wood to capture two state high school championships. When the duo won the 4A state title in 2011, it was the school's first state title in tennis since 1983.
"I would say I'm expecting him to improve rapidly with the training and level of players he's going to be playing with," Wayman said. "I think he's going to add to our strength. I know that John is a doubles specialist, which will give us good depth for our matches."
Stormans is the third member of Saint Mary's recruiting class for the 2013-14 season. He will join Nathan Lewis of Australia and Mathias Olsen of Denmark at Korth Tennis Complex this fall.
