MORAGA, Calif. – Kate Gaze of the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team is currently playing with the Jayco Emerging Australian Opals in China as part of the Four-Nations Tournament.
In the opener on June 20th, Gaze helped lead the Opals to an 84-76 win over the Hungarian National team in Jiangxi province. Gaze was one of three scorers in double figures with 10 points.
On Wednesday the 26th, Gaze and the Emerging Australian Opals pushed China to the limit, falling 76-73 in Anhui. Gaze poured in a team-high 15 points in the loss. The Opals will play one more game in Jiangxi as part of its nine-game tour.
Gaze enters her senior year at Saint Mary’s in 2013-14. She has consistently been one of the program’s top shooters, leading the Gaels in three-point and free-throw shooting. In her career, Gaze has connected on 136 three pointers in 102 career games. She is also an 80 percent free-throw shooter, making 197-of-244 attempts.
The 2013-14 Gaels return four starters, including a senior led team with three starters being seniors (Gaze, Jackie Nared and Danielle Mauldin).
Last year the Gaels contended for the West Coast Conference title and advanced to the WNIT final eight.
