MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team has announced its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The Gaels will face a total of nine teams which reached the NCAA or WNIT postseason last year, including squads from the SEC, Big East and Pac-12.

Saint Mary’s finished last year with a 23-11 mark, advancing to the WNIT Quarterfinals. The Gaels spent most of the year on the NCAA “bubble,” finishing with an RPI of 44.

The Gaels return four starters from last year’s team in Carli Rosenthal and the senior trio of Kate Gaze, Danielle Mauldin and Jackie Nared. Each of the seniors should reach the 1,000 career points mark by the start of conference play.

The teams reaching the postseason that the Gaels will face include WCC opponents Gonzaga (NCAA), Pacific (WNIT 3rd rd.), BYU (WNIT 3rd rd.) and San Diego (WNIT 2nd rd.). SMC will also take on Cal Poly (NCAA), Washington (WNIT 2nd rd.), UCSB (WNIT), Toledo (WNIT 3rd rd.) and Butler (WNIT).

Some notable dates include the 2013-14 season opener in McKeon Pavilion as the Gaels host Washington on Friday, November 8th. The Gaels will travel to Indianapolis to take on Butler in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse on November 16th.

As part of a four-game home stretch, Saint Mary’s will host the annual Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic on November 29-30 which will include Alabama, Toledo and Cal State Fullerton.

The West Coast Conference tournament will be held March 6-11 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. With 10 teams in the tournament, the bracket is a bit different this year as there will be no more double byes. On Thursday, March 6th, the 7-seed will face the 10-seed, while the 8-seed takes on the 9-seed.

The WCC quarterfinals will feature four games on Friday, with the semifinals held on Monday after a two-day break. The WCC championship game will be held on Tuesday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m.

The conference part of the Gaels’ schedule is expected to be released by the WCC in late August.
