MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's pitcher Thomas Cortese has been added to the Far West All-Star Team that will compete against the Marysville Gold Sox on Tuesday in Marysville.

A native of Fremont, Calif., Cortese will represent the Humboldt Crabs in the league's first All-Star game. He joins Gaels teammate and Walnut Creek Crawdads infielder Nikko Saenz on the Far West roster.

Cortese has been a vital part of the Crabs' bullpen this summer. Heading into play this weekend, he owns a 3-3 record with a 1.64 ERA, two saves and 30 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings.

The first Far West All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. and will feature the nationally renowned Marysville Gold Sox against the Far West All-Stars. Comprised of eight teams, the Far West League features Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior college talent from around the country. Games are played at venues throughout Northern California, including Saint Mary's.

Cortese will play in the game for Crabs coach Matt Nutter, who will helm the Far West squad. He will be one of six Humboldt representatives.
