MORAGA, Calif. -- Former University of Oregon golfer Tye Gabriel has enrolled at Saint Mary's College and will be eligible to compete for the two-time West Coast Conference champion Gaels this fall.

Gabriel, a native of Portland, played in five tournaments in his two years at Oregon and registered a 75.44 stroke average as a sophomore last season.  His top finish was a tie for 14th place in the 2013 Oregon Duck Invitational with a 2-over par 218 after opening the tournament with a career-low 67 in the first round at Eugene Country Club.

He also participated in last year's Saint Mary's Invitational and finished in a tie for 52nd at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.

"Tye is going to provide experienced depth to our team," said SMC head coach Scott Hardy. "He is a talented player with strong ball striking skills. We expect Tye to fit in well with the team and provide even greater competition for traveling spots. His ability to impact our team on the golf course should be a nice addition to the program. Tye also excels in the classroom and his personality is a great fit for our program."

A 2011 graduate of Lake Oswego (Ore.) High School, his helped lead the Lakers to three Three Rivers League titles and one state championship.  As a junior, he finished as co-medalist at the Oregon state championships.

Saint Mary's opens its season on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Ill.  The Gaels play five tournaments during the fall season and will host the annual Saint Mary's Invitational on Sept. 23-24 in Seaside, Calif.
