BREMERTON, Wash. -- The Saint Mary's golf team made a final round move up the leaderboard today, registering its best round of the season and rising four places to finish in a tie for fifth at the Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

The Gaels shot a 1-under par 287 in today's final round to finish the 54-hole tournament with scores of 292-295-287 for a 10-over par 874.  SMC tied BYU for fifth place in the 15-team field and finished just three strokes behind fourth-place San Diego.

Host Washington ran away with the team title on Gold Mountain's Olympic Course with a 17-under par 847, which was eight strokes better than second-place Arizona State.  Oregon State finished third at 4-over.

"I felt like we finally settled down today and got past the nerves that usually come with the start of a new season," said SMC head coach Scott Hardy.  "We started and finished well today, which is always the key to posting a good team score.  Hopefully, we can build on this round and carry the momentum into next week's Saint Mary's Invitational."

Sophomore Maclayne Marr carded rounds of 73-75-73 for a 5-over par 221 and tied seven other golfers for 32nd place overall.  Senior Alex Bungert and junior Tye Gabriel fied for 46th overall at 8-over par.  Bungert joined Refioglu in posting the team's low round of the day with a 1-under 71.

Senior Nick Sako fired rounds of 71-73-71 on Gold Mountain's adjacent Cascade Course to finish seventh among 47 golfers playing in a separate individuals-only tournament.
