DAVIS, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team continued to take steps of progress Saturday at the Aggie Invitational hosted by UC Davis, as freshmen Nathan Lewis and John Stormans each collected their first collegiate win to highlight day two action.
Both Lewis and Stormans competed in the round-robin portion of the tournament after each took their lumps in their collegiate debuts Friday. Lewis would fight hard for the first set in his win, defeating San Francisco's Timothy Tan 7-5 in the opening frame. Lewis would ride that momentum to a 6-2 win in the second, taking the match.
Stormans followed the same blueprint in his win over San Francisco's Yezan Dayeh. A 6-4 win gave the Olympia, Wash. native the first set, and Stormans continued that roll into the second as he cruised to a 6-0 win to claim the match.
Another highlight to come from Saturday's action came from the doubles court. Stormans' success carried over, as he and partner Samuel Bloore won twice in the ITA Big West Flight consolation bracket to advance to Sunday's consolation final. The duo defeated San Francisco's Tan and Johan Samuelsson 8-2 before defeating Oregon's Alex Marcinowski and Brent Chin 8-6.
Action wraps up Sunday in Davis, beginning with doubles at 9 a.m.
