MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team will hold its annual “Meet the Gaels” day on Saturday, October 19th in McKeon Pavilion. The day includes a girls clinic, a practice and a meet and greet with food and beverages.
This is a great opportunity to get an early look at the Gaels and catch up with the returners and meet the newcomers as Saint Mary’s aims to return to the postseason in 2013-14.
The day’s schedule includes a free clinic for girls (grades K-8th) from 9-10:00 a.m. The Gaels practice from 10-noon, followed by the meet and greet at noon in the lobby of McKeon Pavilion with food and beverages.
Saint Mary’s finished last season with a 23-11 record, including an 11-5 mark in conference play. The Gaels were on the NCAA “bubble” for most of the season, finishing the year with an RPI of 44. SMC advanced to the final eight of the WNIT, playing in its four consecutive WNIT.
Saint Mary’s has advanced to the postseason seven times since 2000 and will aim to make its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since the 2000-01 campaign.
The Gaels return four starters, including a trio of seniors who should each be over 1,000 career points after the non-conference portion of the schedule. Jackie Nared (16.6 ppg/8.7rpg) and Danielle Mauldin (13.6ppg/10.8rpg) return as First-Team All-WCC performers. Nared led the league in scoring (all games) while Mauldin led the league in rebounding. Kate Gaze is the other senior starter, coming off a season averaging 11.0 ppg and is one of the top outside shooters in the WCC.
