MORAGA, Calif. -- Audrey Leitz won two matches in the ITA Red consolation bracket and the team of Danielle Flores and Jade Frampton moved on to the ITA Red consolation finals as the Saint Mary's women's tennis team wrapped up day two at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.
The Gaels began the day with three players still alive in the ITA Red championship bracket, and Catherine Leduc led the charge with a 7-6 (5) 6-2 win over Cal's Cessi Estlander to reach the quarterfinals. Teammate Jade Frampton also advanced thanks to an injury walkover.
Both Leduc and Frampton would fall in the next round, which meant the Gaels shifted their focus in total to the consolation bracket. That's where Leitz, who dropped her first singles match on Friday, was continuing her fight through the tournament. She began with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Cal Poly's Jennifer Cornea, then followed that with a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Sacramento State's Olivia Boija to reach Sunday's consolation semifinals.
On the doubles side, Flores and Frampton continued to work their way back after an opening round loss on Friday. They teamed Saturday to beat Portland's Maja Mladenovic and Tori Troesch 8-2, earning a spot in Sunday's consolation final against Stanford's Doyle and Amelia Herring.
Play begins Sunday at 9 a.m. with the final round of doubles. Two more rounds of singles will follow, with champions being crowned on Sunday afternoon.
