STANFORD, Calif. -- Saint Mary's women's tennis player Jenny Jullien continued her roll at the ITA Regional at Stanford, winning two matches on Saturday at Taube Tennis Center to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round.
Jullien didn't just find success in singles. She teamed with Danielle Flores to advance in doubles, and the duo will play again Sunday in the round of 16.
On the singles court, Jullien began her day with a morning match against Pacific's Hana Ritterova. The reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year had no trouble moving into the round of 16, scoring a 6-1, 6-0 victory to move on to afternoon play.
In that afternoon match, Jullien squared off with Washington's Riko Shimizu who on Friday knocked off No. 15 seed Megan Heneghan of UC Davis to move on. Jullien, seeded No. 6, again found herself on top of a lopsided victory, earning a 6-3, 6-0 win. She now moves to Sunday's quarterfinals where she'll face No. 9 seed Carol Zhao of Stanford.
On the doubles court, Jullien and Flores only had one match on Saturday but the duo had to go the distance to advance. Facing Cal's Kelly Chui and Cecilia Estlander, the Gaels pair won 7-1 in a tiebreaker to win the match 8-7. Next up for Jullien and Flores is a match against Washington's Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Jullien and Flores weren't the only Gaels looking forward to Sunday's doubles draw. The team of Jade Frampton and Audrey Leitz also had to use a tiebreaker but the duo beat San Jose State's Julianna Bacelar and Sabastiani Leon 8-7 (4) to advance. Leitz and Frampton will face Shimizu and Elianne Douglas-Miron of Washington on Sunday.
