MORAGA, Calif. -- Alec Wagner claimed a win in consolation singles play and the Saint Mary's men's tennis team completed day three of the ITA Northwest Regional at Korth Tennis Complex on Sunday.
Competing in the consolation bracket, Wagner took on San Francisco's Jason Lee. The sophomore from Hawai'i took a close first set 7-5, then rolled from there with a 6-0 win in the second. John Stormans was the only other Gael to compete in singles on Sunday, but the freshman dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Portland's Justin Guay.
Joakim Norstrom and Tuomas Manner entered Sunday as the lone Gaels left in the main doubles draw, but couldn't come up with the big points when they needed them as they fell 8-4 to Cal's Campbell Johnson and Filip Bergevi. Wagner and Nathan Lewis competed in the consolation doubles bracket but dropped a tough 8-7 (5) match decision to San Francisco's James Tallman and Johan Samuelsson.
Play continues Monday in Moraga with two more rounds of singles and one doubles. Action concludes Tuesday with finals for both singles and doubles.
