MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s cross country team heads to the West Coast Conference championships on Saturday in Malibu. Live coverage of the championships will be provided free of charge through TheW.tv.
The live stream will be produced by ProAngle Media and will air live on the WCC YouTube page and WCCsports.com. After the event, it will be available for on-demand viewing on both YouTube and TheW.tv.
Saint Mary’s features one of the top runners in the region in Raj Pannu. Pannu won the Hornet Jamboree on October 4th, a meet that included 14 teams and regionally ranked teams, including nationally ranked No. 12 UCLA.
Pannu followed that race up with a second-place overall finish at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, showing that his win was not a fluke and will be one of the favorites at the WCC Championships.
The Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s squads are familiar with the WCC championships course, having participated in the WCC Preview meet in September. In the limited field taking part in the WCC Preview meet, the men’s squad finished second, while the women’s squad finished third.
For the SMC men at the preview meet, Rhett Baynes and Zach Hansen each set personal best times.
On the women’s side at the WCC preview, Ali Teliha set a freshman record, running in her first ever 6K race. The Saint Mary’s women’s team set a team record in its last race at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.Last year’s WCC Championship was held in the rain and mud in Portland. This year’s forecast in Malibu calls for sun, light wind and a temperature around 70 degrees.
