MORAGA, Calif. -- Members of the Saint Mary's women's basketball, lacrosse and softball teams recently joined with employees from athletics corporate partner Common Interest Management to help transform an area elementary school playground in need of restoration.

Working with nonprofit organization Playworks Northern California, the group designed and painted colorful multi-purpose play areas, foursquare courts and a special motivational "peace path" in the Cesar Chavez Elementary School playground in East Palo Alto, Calif.

Student-Athletes participating from Saint Mary's included:  Sabrina Engelstad, Devyn Galland, Alia McCoy, Samira McDonald and Valerie Moore from women's basketball;  Allie DeBruhl, Megan Gandsey, Anne Neuweiler, Michelle Stark, Rachel Sunday, Hailey Zummo and Megan Zummo from lacrosse;  and Jessica Bever, Cassandra Grima, Alexis Konstantinopoulos, Stephanie Lee, Lujane Mussadi, Monika Reichhardt, Brittany Sabatini and Christine Torrise from softball.

"It was extremely rewarding to know that what we consider little things can make a big difference in a child's life," said McDonald, a native of Lacey, Wash.  "We had a great time painting the playground and doing something that will have a positive impact on someone else's life.  It only took a few hours of our time, but our efforts will provide numerous hours of enjoyment for the children of that school."
