MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the fifth consecutive season.

For a team to be considered for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official NCAA, NAIA or junior college roster forms for the fall season.

Since the award takes into account the Fall and Spring Terms, the Gaels will find out if they made it for a sixth consecutive year next fall (for the 2013 season).

In 2013, the Gaels were anchored in the classroom by several student-athletes with GPA’s over 3.3. This includes Flannery Davis, Sara Ives, Casidee Lynch, Melinda Madden, Nicole Schultz, Vicki Shimkus and Jessica Castillo.

Saint Mary’s gained valuable experience in 2013, playing several ranked opponents and nine squads who made the NCAA Tournament Field. The Gaels went 4-5 in Saint Mary’s Stadium, and won on the road at Loyola Marymount for the first time since 1999.
