LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s softball team began the Loyola Marymount Invitational with a 2-1 win over Lehigh on Thursday morning on the LMU campus.

The Gaels got a complete game from Lujane Mussadi who earned the win.  Mussadi went 7.0 innings, allowing no earned runs.  Monika Reichhardt provided much of the offense, going 2-for-2, with two doubles and two RBI, driving in both SMC runs.  Cassidy Szeredy had a game-high three hits for SMC.

The Gaels took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Reichhardt had the big two-out double, driving in Christine Torrise.

After Lehigh tied it in the bottom half, the Gaels retook the lead in the fourth with a two-out rally.  Katelyn Mamizuka walked and stole second base.  Reichhardt doubled to left center to give SMC the lead 2-1.

Mussadi continued to sail through the Mountain Hawks lineup, scattering five hits and walking none.

Saint Mary’s improves to 7-11 on the year and will face Lehigh again on Friday, the first of two games for the Gaels on the second day of the Invitational.
