MORAGA, Calif. – The proud history of Saint Mary’s College men’s basketball will be on display later this month as 15 of the 25 players named to the school’s All-Century Team have committed to participate in the Gaels All-Star Classic & Alumni Weekend.
Six of the top 10 players on that honor team are scheduled to attend, including top-ranked Tom Meschery and runner-up Daniel Kickert. The team was selected prior to the 2007-08 season as part of the 100th anniversary of the SMC men’s basketball program.
The June 29 All-Star Classic is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff and will be preceded by an alumni game. General admission tickets are available for $5 by clicking here. Currently renewed men's basketball season ticket holders, Saint Mary's students / Gael Force members, youth ages 12-and-under and current SMC faculty and staff will receive free admission.
Players from that elite list who have committed to attend the All-Star Classic include: 1. Tom Meschery (1958-61); 2. Daniel Kickert (2002-06); 5. Peter Thibeaux (1979-83); 7. David Vann (1978-82); 9. Paul Marigney (2000-05); 10. Odell Johnson (1955-57); 14. Nick Pappageorge (1976-78); 15. EJ Rowland (2003-05); 16. Erick Newman (1987-89); 17. Rick Bernard (1973-78); 19. Maurice Harper (1971-75); 20. Bill Sanchez (1953-56); 23. Joe Barry (1956-59); 24. Jim Moore (1962-65); and 25. Al Lewis (1987-89).
Top-25 honorees Kickert, Marigney and Rowland are among the roughly 20 active Saint Mary’s professional players who will participate in the All-Star Classic. The list includes NBA Champion Patrick Mills and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova - two players who are not a part of the all-Century team since they participated at Saint Mary's after the team was selected.
A complete list of attendees, as well as rosters and other details related to the All-Star Classic, will be released closer to the event date.
