TAIPEI, Chinese Taipei -- Incoming Saint Mary's freshman Agnieszka Kudziela played a big role for Team Australia on Friday as she helped the Aussies score a five-set win over Macau in a pool play match at the Asian Under-19 Volleyball Championship in Chinese Taipei.
Kudziela's impact on the 25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-10 victory was immediately apparent on the stat sheet. She tied for second on the team in kills with 13 and ranked second on the squad with four digs. Australia finished pool play with a 1-2 record.
The tournament, which features 15 teams from the region, moves into the knockout stage on Saturday and continues through the weekend. Play concludes next Thursday with the medal round.
Kudziela, who will join the Gaels for the 2014 season, is a veteran of international play. She has competed for Australia since 2011 and earlier this season helped her country's under-19 squad place fourth in a field of 24 teams at the 2014 Thai Under-21 Championships.
