FOSTER CITY, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s rowing team concluded their fall season Saturday at the Head of the Lagoon with a win and multiple top-five finishes.
In the collegiate fours, the Gaels not only won the race but also claimed the top three spots with the SMC B boat taking first, SMC A boat taking second and SMC C boat taking third. The SMC D boat rounded out the team taking eighth.
“It was really great to see the fours finish top-three,” said Head Coach Anna Pytlak on the SMC’s strong collegiate four performance.
Saint Mary’s continued a strong showcase in the varsity eights. The SMC A boat finished fourth and the SMC B boat finished fifth, beating out boats from UC Davis and UC Berkeley lightweight.
The Gael’s novice eight boat finished fourth out of 11 teams, showing improvement over their debut at the Head of American where they finished sixth.
“We were especially happy,” said Pytlak, “to see the novice eight have a big improvement in placement and time for this race.”
SMC’s collegiate pair also showed improvement finishing second only behind UC Berkeley lightweight. The Gaels were able to finish before three boats from Stanford.
“We are closing out the fall season with some solid goals for this spring and will be working hard this winter to make sure we stay on track to achieving them,” said Pytlak.
