MORAGA, Calif. — Fall ball comes to its ultimate conclusion for the Saint Mary’s baseball team this week, as the Gaels hold their annual Navy-Red Intersquad World Series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all in a battle to see which team will be the one to host a free car wash on Sunday.
The Gaels, West Coast Conference champions last spring and participants in the NCAA Regionals, will host their three-game series with a single game each day beginning Thursday. Thursday’s and Friday’s games both start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday’s game three begins at noon. All games are free and open to the public.
The losing team of the Navy-Red World Series will host a free car wash for the public on campus from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday. The car wash will be held beyond the left field wall of Louis Guisto Field. No donations will be accepted, as the car wash is free to the public.
The defending WCC champion Gaels welcome 16 newcomers to join 23 returning letterwinners, including two returning starting pitchers and five returning field position starters. Saint Mary’s head coach Eric Valenzuela was named WCC Coach of the Year last season as he led the Gaels to their first-ever WCC title and NCAA postseason berth with their most wins (33) in nearly four decades.
