MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s women’s tennis player Danielle McIntyre was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 6-12 after leading the Gaels to a split in the week’s action versus Washington and San Diego State.
Playing as the No. 3 singles player for SMC, McIntyre also claimed a big win during singles action in the 5-2 victory over the Aztecs.
McIntyre, a first year player for the Gaels, has taken the No. 1 spot in doubles action with partner Emma Critser. The duo impressed with two convincing wins to help SMC claim the doubles point versus the Huskies and Aztecs.
In Friday’s action, McIntyre and Critser flew by their opponent, 6-1. The duo carried over the momentum into Sunday’s action versus SDSU.
Facing the Aztecs top doubles team, McIntyre and Critser followed up Friday’s victory with an equally impressive performance. The top pairing outplayed their opponent en route to the convincing 6-2 win.
The first year player from Melbourne, Australia also won her first singles match of the dual season with a straight-set victory in the No. 3 spot. McIntyre rolled through San Diego State’s Paola Diaz, 6-2, 6-3.
Saint Mary’s will head back to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 18 to face off against defending Big West Champion UC Santa Barbara. The Gaels will battle the Gauchos at 3:30 p.m. in Sacramento, Calif.
