CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s will take a quick trip down to Southern California this week as they partake in the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic in Chula Vista, Calif. The tournament is hosted by No. 22 San Diego State and will be played at the San Diego Country Club, just a few miles south of downtown San Diego.
The first day of the event is Monday, Mar.13 and the golfers will play two rounds on the opening day. A single final round will be held on Tuesday to conclude the tournament. Tee-offs begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
A number of top-ranked schools will be competing in this year’s tournament. Last year’s winner No. 18 Texas will be participating as well as No. 20 Duke and the host No. 22 San Diego State. The West Coast Conference will be well represented as Saint Mary’s will play alongside rivals San Diego, Santa Clara, and Pacific. The remaining field includes UCLA, Arizona, North Carolina, Ole Miss, New Mexico, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, and Colorado State.
The Gaels will look to build off a strong individual performance at their last tournament as Perry Cohen and Pavan Sagoo each notched top-10 finishes at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. Connor Blick and Eduardo Carrete have also had strong seasons this year and will aim for another tournament victory against steep competition.
Live stats for the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic can be found on the Gaels’ golf schedule page. Results and recaps will be posted after each day’s action on SMCGaels.com.
