MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s men’s basketball player Jock Landale was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 13-19 after leading the Gaels with two more double-doubles and their first win in the NCAA Tournament since the 2012-13 season.
In the team’s Round of 64 matchup versus VCU, the 6-11 big man notched his 16th double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Landale was his efficient self, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor in the eight point victory over the Rams.
Landale continued his strong run into the Round of 32 versus No. 2-seed Arizona. The junior took a team-high 14 shots, and made eight of them while scoring 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Landale totaled 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists versus the Wildcats.
Saint Mary’s fell just short in reaching the program’s second Sweet 16 appearance. The Gaels still had potentially the most impressive year in school history, tying the record books for most wins in a single season (29).
Landale, an All-WCC First Team honoree, and top-5 finalist for Kareem Abdul-Jabaar award, led the WCC in rebounding (9.5). He was also 33rd in the NCAA in rebounding and an impressive 14th in the country in double-doubles.
