MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s baseball team’s home stand continues Tuesday when it hosts South Bay foe San Jose State in the first of a non-conference home-and-home series.
Tuesday’s game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The game will be streamed live on the Gaels’ “GaelVision” Gameday Central page. Tickets for this and all home games are available for purchase on SMCGaels.com or by calling the SMC Ticket Office at (925) 631-GoTx.
Saint Mary’s is coming off of a weekend West Coast Conference series loss to first-place Loyola Marymount. The Gaels have still won five of their last eight games despite the series loss. But going farther back, they have lost seven of 12 since a six-game winning streak in March.
RHP Matt Brown (3-4, 5.70 ERA) vs. RHP Drew Strotman (3-1, 4.98 ERA)
ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE
The Spartans (13-20-1) dropped two of three on the road at Mountain West Conference opponent Nevada last weekend. The Spartans have lost 11 of their last 16 games, including a 2-10 mark on the road. SJSU is 5-1 this season against WCC members (BYU, Pacific, Santa Clara).
San Jose State lacks power with just six home runs in 2017. Aaron Pleschner leads the offense with a .328 average. Small ball has been SJSU’s game with 30 sacrifice bunts and seven players with at least three stolen bases. The pitching staff has struggled with a 5.48 team ERA. Opponents are hitting .292 off of SJSU pitchers. Nine pitchers with at least five appearances have ERAs over 5.25.
The Gaels host local rival Pacific in a three-game WCC series starting at 3 p.m. Friday. Friday’s game is TheW.tv’s featured “Friday Night Baseball” broadcast.
