MORAGA, Calif. — Summer has arrived and that means the dispersal of Saint Mary's baseball players all across the country for summer collegiate baseball. From Alaska to Virginia, the Gaels will be represented on 13 different teams across 10 different leagues.

A total of 23 Saint Mary's baseball players set to return for the 2017-18 school year are lined up for summer collegiate baseball. There, the Gaels will hone their winning ways after finishing the 2017 season with a 37-20 record and their second straight appearance in the West Coast Conference Tournament. The 37 wins were the most since a program-record 41 wins four decades ago in 1977.

Multiple players will continue to be teammates during the summer. A quartet of SMC underclassmen travel to Maryland to play for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken League. Redshirt freshman Matt Green, sophomore Ty Madrigal and rookies Kevin Milam and Ken Waldichuk will all play there.

Gaels join forces in the Pacific Northwest as well, as Andrew Hansen, Ryan Novis and Jackson Thoreson all unite to play for the Gresham GreyWolves in Oregon as part of the West Coast League. The Southern California Collegiate Baseball League houses a trio of Gaels with Taylor Meilleur, Brett Rasso and Drew Strotman all playing for the Palm Springs Power.

Conner Loeprich, Patrick O'Shea and Joe Vranesh are the third SMC trio playing together this summer, combining in Virginia with the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League. Meanwhile, fellow shortstops Austin Piscotty and Conor Thane will team up in the Rocky Mountain League with the Boulder Collegians.

Two Gaels will play in the prestigious Alaska Baseball League. Austin Chauvin joins the Glacier Pilots in Anchorage. Nick Sparks will play for the Alaska Goldpanners in Fairbanks, who will strive for international success with two tournaments in British Columbia. Logan Steinberg is spending his entire summer in Canada, playing for the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League.
