MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's basketball will once again be represented on a global stage, as teammates Emmett Naar and Tanner Krebs will represent Australia in the 29th World University Games this summer.

Also known as the Summer Universiade, the tournament reflects an Olympic atmosphere with as many as eight games played in a ten-day period while the athletes live in a village for the duration of the games. Both the men's and women's teams consist of players 23 and under who are currently completing university studies in Australia or abroad.

The tournament will take place in Chinese Taipei from August 20-29. The Emerging Boomers are placed in Pool D alongside Ukraine, Lithuania, Israel, Mozambique and 2015 bronze medalist Russia.

Naar, who enters his final season at Saint Mary's, is second on the all-time list for most assists in a career (532). The 6-1 guard finished the season tied for the team lead in assists per game (5.6), averaged 9.4 points and shot 44.9 percent from the floor. The sharp-shooter remained solid from beyond the arc, shooting 42.4 percent from three-point land.

Starting all 34 games for the Gaels during 2016-17, Naar was named an all-WCC honorable mention for the Gaels.

Krebs played a key role off the bench for SMC, shining on the biggest stage in the NCAA Tournament. The 6-6 wing is coming off a strong finish to the season, which saw him score 12 points in each postseason game for the Gaels. In the two-game stretch, Krebs shot 53.8 percent from the floor and also collected 10 total rebounds.

Other NCAA student-athletes set to compete for the Boomers this summer include Jack McVeigh from the University of Nebraska, Winthrop's Xavier Cooks, and Dejan Vasiljevic from the University of Miami.
