LOS ANGELES — Perry Cohen, Jeffrey Inouye-Wong and newcomer Ash Hakim will look to continue their on course success in this week's 117th U.S. Amateur Championship at Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club from Aug. 14-20.
The most prestigious amateur event will begin on Monday in the two different sites. Built in 1927, Riviera CC will play a long 7,272 yards for a par 70. Bel-Air CC is one year older as it was established in 1926, and will play a par 70 at 6,722 yards.
The entire field will compete in a 36-hole stroke play competition with the top 64 finishers advancing to Wednesday's first round of match play. Cohen will tee off the 10th tee at Bel-Air CC at 8:13 a.m. PT. Inouye-Wong will begin his quest off the 1st tee at Riviera CC at 1:28 p.m. PT, while Hakim will open his round off the 1st at Riviera at 9:06 a.m. PT.
Viewers can watch the Championship beginning with Match Play on Wednesday, Aug. 16. FS1 will carry the telecast of the Round of 64, 32 and Quarterfinals, while FOX will show the semifinals and championship match. Followers can also stream the Round of 32 and the first 18 holes of the championship match on USGA.org. Results from stroke play are available online by clicking here.
Cohen finished tied for second after shooting a 9-under 135 total in his qualifier at Bernardo Heights Country Club. The All-WCC First Team honoree shot a solid 67 in the first round, and followed up with five birdies in the second round for a round of 68.
Hakim shot a two day total 133 (-11) to finish second in the Sunnyside Country Club qualifier. The incoming freshman finished two strokes behind the top finisher, Anthony Manguray.
In the first round, the San Ramon native shot a 63 which included 11 birdies on the scorecard. Hakim started the qualifier hot, with six birdies in his first seven holes. He carded four birdies in the back nine to shoot 9-under in the first 18 holes.
Inouye-Wong shot a two day total 137, just one stroke behind leaders David Laskin and Alexander Lee, in his qualifier at Rancho Murrieta Country Club.
Riviera CC is no stranger to hosting premier events. Notable events hosted by Riviera are the 1948 U.S. Open, 1983 and 1995 PGA Championship, 1998 U.S. Senior Open and 2012 NCAA Men's Division I Championship.
Bel-Air CC was home of the 1976 U.S. Amateur and 2004 U.S. Senior Amateur. The course also co-hosted U.S. Open Qualifying with Los Angeles CC in 1969.
