Moraga, CA – Saint Mary’s sophomore point guard Patrick Mills suffered two fractured metacarpal bones in his right hand in the final minutes of the first half against Gonzaga. Mills’ return to the Saint Mary’s lineup could be as soon as four weeks.

Mills scored 18 points in 17 minutes against the Bulldogs as he tied a school record making six 3-pointers in the first half. Following the injury, which came with 3:06 left on the first half clock, Mills was unable to continue and did not play in the second half of the game. Saint Mary’s led 34-28 at the time of the injury, and the Gaels led 39-33 at halftime.

Mills is the Gaels’ leading scorer, averaging 18.7 points per game while shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 36.2 percent from 3-point land. He is also the team’s leader in assists (77) and steals (47).

Saint Mary’s will continue West Coast Conference action on Saturday when the No. 18/22 Gaels travel to Portland. The game between SMC and the Pilots will tip-off at 6 p.m. from the Chiles Center and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet California.
