MORAGA, Calif. — Stella Beck missed two chances at a game-winning layup in the final four seconds and Utah barely hung on Saturday for a 63-62 win over the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team in the final game of the 2016 Hilton Concord Classic at McKeon Pavilion.

Beck nearly recorded a double-double Saturday with 11 points and a season-high nine rebounds. But she could not get the game-winning layup to fall after she drove in on the baseline from the left side with four seconds on the clock. She caught her own rebound and missed the shot again off the side of the rim, where it landed in Megan McKay’s hands as the final buzzer sounded. Emily Potter’s free throw with 9.3 seconds left gave Utah (5-0) the one-point, 63-62 lead after it had led by as much as six in the fourth quarter.

McKay logged her second straight double-double, earning a spot on the Hilton Concord Classic All-Tournament Team with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Carly Turner also bounced back and had 11 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Saint Mary’s went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 58-58 with 4 minutes, 35 seconds, to play. Utah took back the lead at the 3:57 mark with two of Tanaeya Boclair’s game-high 16 points. Utah would not make another field goal for the rest of the game after Boclair’s layup. The score stayed 60-58 for an extended period of time as both teams combined for six missed shots and five turnovers over the next 163 seconds.

The Gaels tied the game at 60-60 with single free throws from McKay and Sydney Raggio. Raggio could have given SMC a 61-60 lead with 1:12 to play but missed the first of her two free throws. It was Potter who gave Utah two separate one-point leads in the final 69 seconds. She, too, could have made the lead larger, as she missed once on both her trips to the line.

Potter finished with eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Malia Nawahine scored 10 points and had three assists, two steals and a rebound. Utah had six players score at least seven points as it shot 38.6 percent for the game. Saint Mary’s was just 12 for 22 (54.5 percent) from the free-throw line.

Saint Mary’s was not outrebounded for the sixth game in as many this year (41-41). Saint Mary’s saw many improvements Saturday. It shot 40 percent (4 for 10) from 3-point distance after shooting 15.4 percent (2 for 13) Friday. SMC also had fewer turnovers than its opponent for the second straight game, something it did not accomplish in its first four contests.

Saint Mary’s begins its second three-game road trip of the season on Thursday when it faces Cal Poly. The Gaels then play San Jose State Sunday and UC Davis on Dec. 11.

BOISE STATE 68, CHARLOTTE 65

Boise State was forced to rally from double-digits down for the second time at the Hilton Concord Classic as Tournament MVP Yaiza Rodriguez scored a career-tying 24 points to lead the Broncos past the Charlotte 49ers, 68-65.

The Broncos either trailed or were tied throughout the first three quarters before rallying for the win in the fourth. Rodriguez nailed her fourth 3-pointer of the contest with 8:06 remaining to give the blue and orange its first lead of the game at 57-55.

The Broncos only trailed once more before holding on for their fifth consecutive victory to remain undefeated on the season. The win was also coach Presnell’s 200th of his Boise State tenure and 596th of his career.
