MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s softball team (11-16) returns home for three games this week, first taking on Northwestern (10-14) in a solo game on Tuesday, March 21 at 3 p.m. The Gaels will then host Princeton (3-5) for a doubleheader on Wednesday with first pitches at 2 and 4 p.m. at Cottrell Field.
This week will be just the second time the Gaels are on home ground.
The Gaels are coming off the Aggie Invitational where the team went 1-4 on the weekend.
SMC collected its win in the first game of the tournament versus North Dakota, 3-2.
Nikki Alexander continues to bat well for the Gaels, leading SMC with a .373 batting average and 28 hits. Alexander also has a .453 slugging percentage and is a leader in the field for the Gaels. The first year player has an exceptional .975 fielding percentage and 36 putouts.
Hailey Sparacino has started in all 27 games for SMC and is batting .284 thus far. Sparacino leads the squad with eight doubles on the season and has a total of 23 hits. The junior has a team-high 55 assists in fielding statistics.
Senior Katie Moss (6-6) leads the Gaels pitching rotation with 18 appearances and 11 starts. Moss has pitched six complete games, and boasts an opponent batting average of .241. She has a team-best 2.73 ERA.
Katlyn Whitt is next up in the rotation with 46 innings pitched. Whitt holds a 3-5 record with a 3.17 ERA.
SMC will be back at Cottrell Field next Tuesday, March 28 for another doubleheader. The Gaels will host Missouri-Kansas City for 2 and 4 p.m. games.
