Each week an incoming Saint Mary's student-athlete is highlighted on SMCGaels.com as the Muscle Milk Newcomer of the Week. This week's selection is incoming freshmen men's soccer player Max Mirner. A native of Lafayette, Calif., Mirner graduates this month from Acalanes High School.
Q: What attracted you to Saint Mary’s?
MM: I loved the feeling and size of the school. Also, obviously because of the great soccer program.
Q: Describe your most memorable sports moment as a youth athlete
MM: My most memorable sports moment was when I was called up to play in my first professional game with the San Jose Earthquakes reserves this past October. I played a solid 35 minutes with some great players including Quakes legend Ramiro Corrales, Walter Martinez and Sam Garza
Q: If you could invite four people from any walk of life to dinner, who would you invite?
MM: Lionel Messi, Steve Jobs, Will Ferrell and Cameron Diaz
Q: What is something most people don’t know about you? Any special talents or hobbies?
MM: I love to backpack, ski, and wakeboard when I'm not playing soccer. I'm also an Eagle Scout
Q: If you didn’t play soccer, what sport would you play?
MM: Hockey or Skiing
Q: Who is your favorite sports personality?
MM: Messi. So humble
Q: Which country do you think is going to win the upcoming World Cup?
MM: Germany or Brazil
Q: What are your favorite professional sports teams and why?
MM: Man City, Barca, Golden State Warriors and the Green Bay Packers. Most of my favorite players play on those teams. And, I've owned a share in the Packers since I was 4 years old.
Q: What is your favorite television show & why?
MM: Shark Tank. I like hearing about peoples inventions and how much their companies can be worth.
Q: What is your favorite book & why?
MM: I'd have to go with Zeitoun by Dave Eggers. Very interesting and detailed story of real life events.
Q: What is your favorite food & why?
MM: My mom's enchiladas. They are so delicious my mouth waters every time before we eat them.
Q: Is there a special person who has made a significant impact in your life? Why?
MM: My parents. They have shaped me into the mature and hardworking young man I am today. I can't thank them enough
