PROVO, Utah -- The Saint Mary's softball team wrapped up its 2013 campaign Saturday against host BYU, dropping a pair of games in its final series of the season.

The Gaels finish the season with an overall record of 20-31 and a 11-13 mark in PCSC play. They'll welcome back the majority of this year's squad next season, having fielded 12 freshmen this season.

GAME ONE

A stirring rally in the top of the seventh put the Gaels in position to win but BYU followed with three runs of its own in the bottom half for a 7-6 victory.

Trailing 4-1 with one inning to play, Saint Mary's got its comeback started with one big swing. Katelyn Mamizuka jolted everyone to attention with a home run to left, making it 4-2.

Singles by Lollie Fitzpatrick and Shannon Low put the tying run on base, and after a fielder's choice left runners on the corners with one out, Erica Musgrave singled in pinch-runner Monika Reichhardt to make it 4-3 BYU.

Megan Smith reached on a fielder's choice that saw every runner wind up safe, loading the bases. Sarah Lira came up with the big hit, singling to left to score the tying run. A bobble in left field allowed one more to score, and Saint Mary's had the lead.

A single by Elizabeth Slaughter plated pinch-runner Alexis Konstatinopoulos to finish the scoring, and SMC led 6-4 heading to the bottom of the inning.

An error got the Cougars rally started, and a single by Alexandra Hudson Shamo plated two and tied the score. A two-out single by Coco Taualii did the rest, scoring Bailie Hicken and giving BYU the win.

Brittany Sabatini, Slaughter, Mamizuka, Fitzpatrick and Low each had two hits for Saint Mary's.

GAME TWO

BYU pitcher Tori Almond fired a no-hitter and the Gaels managed one unearned run as they fell 4-1 in the 2013 season finale.

Saint Mary's scored its lone run in the fourth inning, when Sabatini reached and advanced to second on a throwing error. After a ground out moved Sabatini to third, Smith flied out to center for a sac fly.

From there, it was all Almond. The junior from South Jordan, Utah struck out five, walked one and hit a batter in the win.
