Sarah Lira was the leader on the mound for the Gaels, tossing 18.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, four earned runs and seven strikeouts, she won two games, with wins over South Dakota and No. 23 California. For the week she had a 1.50 ERA.
In SMC’s first-ever win over the Golden Bears, Lira hurled the complete game, going 7.0 innings, with five hits, one run and two strikeouts in the 4-1 win.
Lira also helped the Gaels to two wins with her bat as well. She hit safely in three games, including two, three-hit games. She went 7-for-15 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. She hit .467 in all games.
Lira has also been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete Co-Athlete of the week with Rugby’s Garrett Brewer.
Brewer helped lead the Gaels to a 30-24 victory over No. 1 BYU. Brewer’s score late in the game gave the Gaels a 27-24 lead and was a game-changing 70-meter try.
