MORAGA, Calif. - Day one of the 2012 PCSC CrossOver Tournament is in the books, with Seattle leading the way on Friday with two wins. The Saint Mary's softball team will open up play in the tournament tomorrow with a pair of games against Northern Colorado and Seattle.
In game one of the day between Seattle and Santa Clara, the Redhawks made a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the seventh and then scored two runs in the eighth to earn the win. The Broncos had a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh but could not close out Seattle. Santa Clara had the lead once again after scoring a run in the top of the eight, but the Redhawks knocked in two in the bottom of the eighth to win game one of the tournament, 3-2.
Portland State and Santa Clara matched up in game two, and the Vikings used a steady dose of runs throughout the game to earn the 8-3 win. Portland State had three errors in the game but outhit the Broncos 18-7.
Game three of the day was between Seattle and Sacramento State. After the teams traded a pair of runs in the third, the Redhawks knocked in three in the top of the fourth to open up the lead. The Hornets made the comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh with three runs, but came up a run short of tying the game, as Seattle won 5-4.
The final game of the day was a matchup between Sacramento State and Northern Colorado. The Hornets led 3-2 in the bottom of the third after a close few innings, but the game would not stay close for long. Sacramento State then went on to score two runs in the fourth and four in the six to blow the game wide open. The Hornets shut out the Bears in the final four innings to earn the 9-2 win.
Games will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with the Gaels taking on Northern Colorado. At 10:30, the Bears will take on Santa Clara followed by Saint Mary's against Seattle. The final game of the day is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. between Sacramento State and Portland State.
