MORAGA, Calif. -- With the West Coast Conference Championships coming up in just two weeks, the Saint Mary's golf team plays its final regular-season event of the spring next week when it competes at the OGIO-UCSB Invitational.

The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday at the 7,068-yard, par 72 Sandpiper Golf Club just north of Santa Barbara.  The event is being played at Sandpiper for the second consecutive year.  Previous tourneys were played at Rancho San Marcos, La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc and the Alisal River Course in Solvang.

The tournament field includes Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, UC Riverside, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, host UC Santa Barbara, Seattle University, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Wyoming and the University of British Columbia.

The Gaels will feature a lineup of seniors Anders Engell and Eric Grimberg, juniors Ben Geyer and Mac McClung and sophomore Alex Bungert.  Senior Kevin Smith will also make the trip and will play in the event as an individual.  His scores will not count toward the team total.

Past individual champions of the event include such notable PGA Tour champions as Craig Stadler (1973), Scott Simpson (1977) and Duffy Waldorf (1985).

Following the OGIO-UCSB Invitational, the Gaels will begin preparation for the WCC Championships, scheduled for April 16-18 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif.
