PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Led by three golfers among the top-12 individually, the Saint Mary's men's golf team finished the first round just five strokes out of the team lead at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate today at Classic Club.
With players still on the course, play was called for the day due to darkness and will be completed at 7:30 a.m. The second round will begin after the conclusion of the first round.
As a team, the Gaels shot a 4-under par 284 and sit just two strokes behind third-place Kent State, four behind Auburn and five behind tournament-leading UNLV.
Junior Ben Geyer and freshman Jonathan De Los Reyes each carded a 2-under par 70 and finished the first round in a tie for sixth-place overall. Junior Mac McClung is in a atie for 12th-place after shooting a 1-under 71, while sophomore Nick Sako is tied for 34th with a 1-over 73. Senior Eric Grimberg is in a tie for 94th after carding a 6-over 78.
