LOS ANGELES - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team concluded the weekend in Los Angeles with a 6-1 win over UC Riverside on Sunday. The Gaels claimed the doubles point and dominated on five-of-six singles courts to earn the win.
SMC improves to 3-7 with the win, while UC Riverside dropped to 3-8 on the season.
In doubles play, the Gaels got two quick wins on courts two and three to win the first point of the day. Saad Benkirane and Maxime Olivan improved to 2-1 together this season with an 8-1 win over Jimmy Roberts and Kevin Griffin. Sherif Hamdy and Seif El Sherbini also claimed an 8-1 win on court three, defeating Luis Gastao and Simon Peters.
Hamdy earned a quick 6-0, 6-0 win on court two to improve to a team-best 6-4 in singles play this season. Olivan defeated Felix Macherez on court one, 6-2, 6-0, while Joakim Norstrom topped Gustao 6-1, 6-2 on court four.
El Sherbini got a 6-2, 6-1 win over Peters on court five, and Samuel Bloore rounded out the Gaels' wins, defeating Kelly Dickson 6-4, 6-1 on court six.
Saint Mary's will return to the courts on Saturday, March 3 with a match at home against UC Davis.
