MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team won their second consecutive home match on Saturday with a 6-1 win over No. 65 UC Santa Barbara. The Gaels swept through doubles play and won five-of-six singles matches to earn the win.
The Gaels improve to 3-2 with the win, while UCSB falls to 1-5 on the season.
Saint Mary's opened the match with a pair of quick doubles wins on courts one and two. The Gaels got the first win on court two, as Jenny Jullien and Catherine Leduc paired up to earn their first win of the season. SMC claimed the doubles point on court two, where Catherine Isip and Elizabeth Searl defeated Lozano/Scatliffe 8-4 and the duo improved to 3-1 this season.
The Gaels earned the doubles sweep at the No. 3 spot, where Jade Frampton and Carla Lindlar teamed up for the first time this season for an 8-6 win over Novak/Cano.
With the doubles point in hand, Saint Mary's won three quick singles matches to claim the match. No. 83 Jenny Jullien defeated Sofia Novak 6-2, 6-0 on court two to put the Gaels up 2-0, while No. 106 Isip claimed her match at the No. 1 spot to give SMC another point. Frampton won the match for the Gaels on court two with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kiersten Meehan.
Anna Chkhikvishvili and Carla Lindlar also won their singles matches to give the Gaels a 6-1 win.
Saint Mary's will return to the courts next week when they play No. 1 Stanford. The match against the Cardinal will take place on Tuesday, February 21 at 2 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
