MORAGA, Calif. - Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Shaw's red-hot
play continued for the Gaels last week. The native of Woodside, Calif. blasted a
career-high with 21 kills while picking up yet another double-double in the
upset win over No. 17 San Diego on the road on a nationally televised game on
ESPNU last Wednesday. For her efforts,
Shaw was named the Saint Mary's Student-Athlete of the Week for the
second-straight week.
For the third match in a row, Shaw smashed a career-high in
kills. On Wednesday she connected for 21
kills on 43 attempts with eight errors for a .302 hitting percentage. She also added 13 digs for her ninth
double-double of the season.
The 21 kills was a match-high while the .302 hitting
percentage led the Gaels. In the first
set, Shaw got off to a slow start recording four kills on eight attempts with
three errors for a .125 hitting percentage, with zero digs. After that she was a force, recording 17
kills on 35 swings with five errors for a .343 hitting percentage including all
13 digs. In the second and third set
alone, she tallied 10 kills on 19 swings with two errors for a .421 hitting percentage,
in those two sets the Gaels took the advantage in the five set win over the
Toreros.
For the year she has a career-high 219 kills, hitting a
team-leading .259, averaging 3.42 kills per set. She also averages 2.47 digs per set with 158
total digs. The Gaels return to action
on Thursday when they travel to Portland, Ore. to take on the Pilots.
