SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first set over Morgan State and never looked back in a 25-5, 25-15, 25-12 sweep in the first match of the Sacramento State Invitational.

"The girls did a nice job tonight taking care of business," said head coach Rob Browning. "They played with a sense of urgency even though there really was never a point in the match when we were in trouble. We had good performances by several different players.  We are looking forward to what should be a couple of very competitive matches tomorrow."

The Gaels hit .425 as a team with 36 kills against just five errors. Dalas Dodd opened the match with the long service run and finished the match with six aces and 33 assists. In a complete team effort, several Gaels finished the evening with zero attack errors.

Lauren Corp finished with nine kills (no errors), Gabby Jolly had seven kills (no errors), Kristina Graven with six kills (no errors), Katie Reininger with five kills (no errors) and Mileva Popovic with three kills in nine attempts and no errors.

In the first set, the Gaels scored the first 12 points and led 16-1 and cruised to the win. Corp led the Gaels in the set with four kills as SMC sent down 11 kills as a team with zero attack errors. The Gaels cruised to the 25-5 win on .500 hitting.

In the second set, Morgan State chipped away at an early SMC lead as the Gaels led 9-8. After a sideout, Dodd had another service run to push SMC up 14-8. The Gaels would continue to pull away as Danica Mendivil would have a service run to push the lead to 10 points. Corp sent down the final kill of the set to give SMC the 25-15 win.

In the third set, SMC led 11-9 before going on a 14-3 run to finish off the set and the match. Mendivil and Reininger finished off the sweep with a block.

Saint Mary's is back in action tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. when it takes on Boise State on the Sac St. campus. The Gaels will play Sac St. at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night.
