MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's baseball's senior first
baseman/designated hitter Troy Channing has been named the Saint Mary's Student
Athlete of the Week. Last week, Channing
led the Gaels with a .412 batting average going 7-for-17 with three doubles, a
home run and five RBI.
Channing led off the week going 2-for-5 against No. 6
Stanford at the Sunken Diamond. In the
top of the third, he blasted a 2-1 offering over the left field fence for his second
home run of the season and 45th of his career. The 45 home runs are first all-time at SMC
and is tied for fourth all-time in the West Coast Conference.
In the Pepperdine series, Channing went 5-for-12; he started
off the series going 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the bottom of the
ninth. In game two of the series the
Waves could not get Channing out. The
Gaels' slugger went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI.
For the year, Channing is hitting .376 with 41 hits in 109
at bats, he has 10 doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI. His .376 batting average is currently third
in the West Coast Conference, while his 41 hits is eighth and hits 20 RBI are
10th.
For his career, Channing ranks in the top-10 all-time at SMC
in eight categories. He is first
all-time in home runs and RBI with 45 and 176 respectively. He ranks second in total bases (403), third
in runs scored (130) and hits (229), fifth in walks (102) and sixth in at bats
(700) and doubles (39).
Channing is the fourth baseball player this season to be recognized
as the SMC Student-Athlete of the Week.
