Saint Mary's got on the board first on Collin Ferguson's blast to the opposite field, an impressive home run, SMC's first round-tripper of the year. He hit the home run off Stanford starter Dean McArdle.

Stanford tied up the game in the third inning and took the lead in the fourth by scoring two runs. The teams exchanged defensive plays with each team throwing a runner out at home plate.

Gary Cornish pitched well out of the pen, going 3.1 innings and allowing one run. Tanner Kichler and Patrick Keane pitched the final two frames for the Gaels.

McArdle went three innings in the start for the Cardinal, while David Schmidt (2-0) pitched the next three frames to earn the victory.

The Gaels had six hits on the afternoon. In addition to Ferguson and Ellison with RBI, Anthony Villa, DonAndre Clark and Darian Ramage also had hits. Clark swiped his fifth base of the year.

Saint Mary's is back in action on Friday night when it takes on UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. in Riverside.
