MORAGA, Calif. - The third game of the series between the Saint Mary's Gaels (3-6) and the No. 25 UC Irvine Anteaters (8-1) has been cancelled due to rain. There will not be a make-up game, so the series will end in a split decision, one game apiece.
On Friday, junior starting pitcher Mark Anderson went the distance, throwing a four hit, complete game shutout leading the Gaels to a game one victory.
UC Irvine took a thrilling game two in 11 innings when the Anteaters shortstop D.J. Crumlich scored on a wild pitch. In the losing effort, the Gaels scored a season-high seven runs, and 14 hits. Brenden Kalfus and Patrick Wisdom banged out three doubles, while shortstop Michael Gastelum hit a career-best four hits, going 4-for-5 with an RBI.
Saint Mary's will return to action next weekend, when the Gaels travel down to Southern California to participate in the Dodgertown Classic. Saint Mary's takes on USC on Friday, March 11 at Dedeaux Field at 6:00 PM. They will then play UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday, March 12. The Gaels wrap-up the weekend playing Georgia at Dodger Stadium on Sunday at 11:30 AM.
