MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's baseball team remained unbeaten at home with a 3-2 win over Chicago State on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels manufactured runs in both the first and eighth innings in the win.

With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 3-3, while Chicago State drops to 0-5.

"Early in the year, we have to work on execution," said head coach Jedd Soto. "Today we did a good job at executing, resulting in scoring runs."

Saint Mary's called upon the speedy DonAndre Clark to score runs in the first and the go-ahead in the eighth. The Gaels also got solid pitching from both Jordan Mills and Gary Cornish (1-0).

"Mills battled and was not as sharp as he was in Northridge," said Soto. "He was able to pound the zone and put us in position to win. Cornish threw strikes and just needs to clean up the balks."

Mills went seven innings, allowing just three hits with one run, three walks and struck out nine. Mills threw 96 pitches, 66 for strikes and had a no-hitter through four innings.

Cornish earned the win, going two innings and allowing two hits and one run.

With the score tied up in the eighth inning, Clark singled through the right side and stole second base. Connor Hornsby walked and Clark advanced to third on Collin Ferguson's fly ball to center field. Brendan Kalfus followed with a fielders choice ground ball to the right side, scoring the go ahead run. The all important insurance run came around to score on a CSU error.

CSU added one run in the ninth and had the potential tying run on second base, but Cornish got the game ender to close out the victory.

Saint Mary's hosts Chicago State tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field in the series finale.
