"We won and that is what is most important today," said head coach Kai Edwards. "We have defended well, giving up two goals in the last five games."
With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 4-3-1, while UC Davis drops to 4-2-1.
The game-winner came on a set piece as Katy Roby took the corner. Vicki Shimkus then found the ball and deflected it to Beaulne in the box. Beaulne had her back to the goal and was able to kick it in behind her and pass the goalie for the score.
"Roby drove it in and Vicki headed it... Beaulne back-heel flicked it for the goal," described Edwards. "A great first career goal on American soil for the Canadian."
Both squads had several chances in the second half as the Aggies fired off 13 shots compared to seven by SMC.
The Gaels had a great opportunity in the 61st minute as the Aggies fouled the Gaels in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Shimkus fired a shot past the goalie but deflected off the post as the Gaels came up empty in the sequence.
Sienna Drizin led UCD with six shots, including four on goal. Taylor Jern was the goalie making six saves.
For the Gaels, Shimkus took a team high four shots and had an assist with Roby on the goal. Khayla Jones notched the shutout with nine saves for SMC.
"Credit the bench today," said Edwards. "Very clutch."
UCD outshot SMC 17-12 for the match.
Earlier in the day, Bucknell defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-1.
