LAX | Saint Mary's Captures 22-12 Win At Kennesaw St.

KENNESAW, Georgia – The Saint Mary’s lacrosse team had six multiple goal scorers as the Gaels won at Kennesaw State by a 22-12 score on Friday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The win gave the Gaels two wins in three games on its road trip back east.

Rachel Minarovich and Allie DeBruhl scored five goals apiece to lead the Gaels, while Jaclyn Biggers scored four times.  Krista Morgan had three goals and four assists, while Meagan Bennett and Anne Neuweiler scored two gaols each.  Anna Turpit also scored and added four assists.

Megan Zummo led SMC with seven ground balls and six draw controls.

SMC held a 44-35 edge in shots and a 23-11 edge in draw controls.  The Gaels also had a season-high with 50 ground balls.

In the first half, the Gaels scored five straight times after the Owls scored the first goal of the game.  Minarovich and Biggers had two goals each, while Morgan also scored.

After KSU cut the deficit down to 5-2, Biggers and Morgan added scores and SMC upped the lead to 7-2 at the 5:55 mark in the first half.

SMC led 9-3 at halftime as Minarovich had four in the first half.

KSU started the second half with three straight goals, pulling within 9-6, before Minarovich stopped the run with her fifth goal of the game and put SMC up 10-6 at the 23:36 mark.

Minarovich’s goal sparked a three goal run as Neuweiler and Biggers scored and upped SMC’s lead to 12-6 with 17:52 remaining.  The goal was Biggers’ fourth of the game.

KSU would not go away easily and pulled within 14-9 with 12:36 remaining.  DeBruhl had an answer for the run and upped SMC’s lead back to 15-9 with under 10 minutes remaining.

KSU added two more goals to pull within 15-11 with five minutes left, but SMC responded again with goals by DeBruhl and Neuweiler and SMC went back up by six with under four minutes remaining.

The Gaels would end up winning the game 22-12, ending the game on a 7-1 run.

Saint Mary’s is back in action on Friday, April 25th at UC Davis in the season finale.
