MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's golfer Alex Bungert and women's lacrosse midfielder Rachel Minarovich shared Muscle Milk SMC Student-Athlete of the Week honors following outstanding performances last week.
Bungert, a native of Orange, Calif., finished in a tie for second in his final collegiate event at the West Coast Conference Championships at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. He carded rounds of 73-67-75 for a 54-hole total of 1-under par 215.
He was one of just three golfers in the field to finish below par and his second round 67 was the second lowest 18-hole total of the tournament. Bungert was named a first-team all-WCC honoree, giving the SMC program at least one first-team all-league selection in 12 of the last 13 years.
Minarovich, a senior from San Diego, Calif., registered a record breaking weekend, setting the Saint Mary’s single season record for draw controls and surpassing the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record for career draw controls.
For the week, Minarovich scored 15 goals with one assist, five ground balls and 16 draw controls in leading the Gaels to victory in road games at Presbyterian and Kennesaw State.
