Three of SMC's goals came by freshmen as Anna Turpit, Morgan Dorsey and Allie DeBruhl scored for the Gaels. Juliet Munroe also added a goal and Kathleen Worsdale tallied 11 saves in goal. Nisa Orozco-McCormick led the Gaels with four groundballs.
For Drexel, Alyse Maiden scored four goals while Lindsey Kovar and Charlotte Wood scored three goals apiece. Whitney Johnson earned the win in goal with three saves, while Aman Santandrea also saw action in goal.
The Dragons scored seven of the first eight goals of the game before DeBruhl's score with 2:57 left before the half ended the Drexel run.
Saint Mary's also scored the first goal of the second-half on a strike by Munroe at the 26:13 mark to make the score 8-3 Drexel. The Dragons scored four unanswered goals to put a stop to any type of comeback hopes for the Gaels.
Dorsey scored her first collegiate goal with 5:12 remaining, netting SMC's final goal of the afternoon.
Drexel outshot SMC 33-13 and had a 30-18 edge in groundballs. Saint Mary's scored 21 turnovers and saved 11 shots.
Saint Mary's is back in action on Tuesday when it takes the Blue Hens in Delaware at 10:00 a.m. (PT).
