MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team begins the 2012 season at home on Sunday when it faces California at 1:00 p.m. on the new Recreation Field on-campus. The turf field is located next to Saint Mary's Stadium.
All Gael home games will have live stats and live video (weather permitting) on SMCGaels.com.
The Gaels return all of their top players from last season, including two All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation players in Jillian Chong and Mariah Walk. Saint Mary's returns 21 letterwinners and lose just one starter from the 2011 squad. SMC will have three seniors, and 11 juniors on the squad. Chong and Walk return after combining for 70 of the Gaels' 163 points last season.
Saint Mary's also returns 20-goal scorer Julie Munroe and Krista Morgan who scored 10 goals in her first season as a Gael.
Cal defeated Saint Mary's 14-6 last year, but the game was tied at 2-2 at halftime after Walk scored twice. After halftime, the Golden Bears scored the first six goals to open up a commanding 8-2 advantage and never looked back.
Cal outshot SMC 39-11 and held a 39-36 advantage in ground balls.
The Gaels also host the first-ever collegiate night game on campus as SMC hosts UC Davis on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Both upcoming home matches are Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches.
