MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team (2-7) returns to Recreation Field on Saturday when it hosts Central Connecticut State (2-3) at 12:00 p.m. The Gaels can surpass last season's win total with a victory over the Blue Devils.
Last week the Gaels won for the first time ever on SMC Recreation Field with a 19-11 victory over Long Island. Allie DeBruhl led the Gaels to a victory over LIU by scoring a career-high six goals in SMC's 19-11 victory over the Blackbirds.
Saint Mary's came up short against Boston University in a 19-8 loss. The Gaels were within two goals and trailed 8-6 at half, but Boston University scored 10 of the first 11 second-half goals to put the game away. Amanda Cross led SMC with two goals and two assists, while Rachel Minarovich and Mariah Walk also scored two goals each.
Cross leads the Gaels with 32 points coming on 26 goals and six assists. Walk is second on the squad with 36 points and 12 goals while Caroline Mahony has 12 points with 11 goals. Holly Hayes is the ground balls leader with 15 and Minarovich has a team-high 30 draw controls.
In goal, Kathleen Worsdale has 90 saves in 497 minutes.
CCSU is led by Betsy Vendel with 18 points including seven goals and a team-high 11 assists. Ryan Mackenzy has a team-high 10 goals while Ashley Perkoski has scored 12 points with three goals. In goal, Erin Delancey has 36 saves in five games and 300 minutes.
The Blue Devils play at Fresno State on Thursday, before making the trip to Moraga on Saturday.
