MORAGA, Calif. — Stella Beck was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 16-22 after being one of the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team’s steadiest performers on an unbeaten West Coast Conference road trip.
Beck was the most consistent performer among a host of balanced performances by the Gaels in back-to-back conference road wins. Saint Mary's had seven players average at least 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, with Beck posting 12.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Beck posted back-to-back double-figure scoring games and was perfect (100.0 percent) from the free-throw line to help keep SMC just one game back of first place in the WCC.
Thursday at Pacific, Beck led Saint Mary's with 14 points, including a perfect 8 for 8 showing at the free-throw line. She tied her season-best with nine rebounds as the Gaels defeated the then-first place Tigers on the road.
Saturday, Beck turned in another double-figures performance with 10 points. 7 of her 8 rebounds came on the offensive end. She also led SMC with four assists to help SMC separate from Pepperdine, who was within one game of the Gaels and two of first place entering the day.
The Gaels wrap up their current three-game road trip Thursday with another important game at second-place San Francisco. SMC then returns home to host Santa Clara at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available on SMCGaels.com or by calling the SMC Ticket Office at (925) 631-4950. All games will also be streamed live via the Gaels’ “GaelVision” Gameday Central page.
